every thought is wonderful
every smile is bright
every word is perfect
and all of life is joyful
i love to give you this
you love to give me that
they love to give us else
and we all find our bliss
Why do you think that some people have more than others? Is it because they are smarter, or more creative, or luckier, or something else?
Are all people alike in every way? No, of course not. Some people, like me, love to write computer programs. Other people would just rather have the computer do its thing, and not care how it works, so that they can work on doing what they love.
So do you think that people are glad that I and others like me, know how and enjoy programming computers? I bet a lot of people are really happy. In fact, it seems that people are so happy, that they actually pay people like me, to write computer programs.
Isn't it great? People can do what they love and get paid for it!
So, what do you think earns you money? Is it the fact that you are doing something that someone else wants, but isn't currently capable of, or doesn't want to do? Do you think that there would be any variation in wealth, if everyone had the same passions, and the same desires, and the same work ethic; if everyone was the same?
It seems to me, that the reason that some people have more than others, is that not everyone is the same. If we were all Bill Gates, and we all did the same thing as he did, would any of us be rich? Probably not.
Do you think you would make more money doing something that everyone loves to do, or do you think you would make more if you did something that someone didn't love to do, but needed to be done? How often do you give your buddy all of the money that you have in the bank and tell him to go out, and spend it on whatever he wants for you? Probably never, because you love spending your own money. But I bet that if your buddy wanted to clean the house for you, you would probably be more willing to let him do that.
So what would be the optimal way to make money, to create wealth?
What about this?
I do what I love doing + You love what I'm doing = I get more of what I love + You get more of what you love
So it leads that the worst way to create wealth would be:
I do what I hate doing + You hate what I'm doing = I get more of what I hate + You get more of what you hate
So how could we minimize the chances of ending up like the last equation? What about specializing according to our variances?
If we take the entire world's population, we would have high variance. So the next step is to do what you love, and add that to someone who loves that you are doing it. With the pool of specialization the size of the earth's population, the chances are, someone, somewhere, loves to have you do what you do. And the less people that do things the same as you, and the more people that want you to do what you do, the more you will be valued and the more wealth you will have.
The key is that everyone loves different things. So if you do something for someone, that they don't love, it frees them up to do the things they do love. Which means that you are valuable to society, which means that you have created wealth for yourself.
